Monty Python Celebrates 48½ Years of ‘Holy Grail’ With Quote-Along Re-Release

The theatrical re-release for Monty Python and the Holy Grail will be the perfect event for everyone who felt that the only thing missing from the original movie was the sound of their own voice.

Forty-eight and one half years after the original film silly-walked its way into cinematic immortality, the first fully original feature film of the iconic absurdist comedy group Monty Python.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail was a respectable success in its time, though it earned mixed reviews from critics upon its original release. In the nearly five decades since its first screening in 1975, the film has grown in popularity to the point where it is arguably the most accessible touchpoint to any audience member familiar with the sketch group. When Eric Idle adapted the film into the massively successful musical Spamalot!, the reaction from the rest of the remaining Monty Python was even more unenthused than the critics who panned the original movie. Terry Jones, co-director of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, famously said of his friend’s take on the story, “Spamalot is utterly pointless. It’s full of air. … Regurgitating Python is not high on my list of priorities.”

Well, now, Monty Python is excitedly regurgitating its old material in an even more airy format, and for less than the price of a sturdy shovel, Python fans can buy a ticket to the Quote-Along and make Jones turn over in his grave.
