Kaitlin Olson Is Officially the Biggest Star on Broadcast TV
The sole lead of the biggest new show on television is none other than Conan.
Twenty years after she agreed to a micro-budget cable sitcom High Potential at #1 on their ranking of the most-watched shows by viewers 18-49 both on TV and on streaming.

And so, Olson is now a main cast member of the longest-running live-action sitcom in American TV history, a fan-favorite recurring character on the critical darling Hacks and the sole star of the most-watched TV show in the country. If all of these accolades don’t add up to an Emmy in September, it’s going to be spray paint and spit time for the Television Academy.
This year marks the first time that Nielsen has created combined rankings that track viewership on both linear television and on streaming, and High Potential sitting atop the charts for the all-important 18-49 demographic is an historic win, not just for the show’s biggest star, but for her multi-billion-dollar parent company as well.
ABC shows hold the top five spots in the 18-49 ranking, with Shifting Gears all backing up High Potential on the list. Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich spoke glowingly about his properties’ performance at the beginning of this the new age in Nielsen ratings, telling Variety, “We’ve just been focused on these shows and making them big hits. So it’s very validating to have these ratings.”
But while all the hit shows listed have plenty of reason to be proud, Erwich isn’t shy about playing favorites. “I mean, High Potential is truly the story of the year,” Erwich gushed, then using the show’s success to take a jab at his CBS contemporaries. “If you look at the multi-platform ratings this year, it does, I think, about double the ratings of Matlock. It stands among the giants of shows that are on right now. I think the momentum of that show will continue.”
Olson, whose non-Sunny solo career hit a speed bump when Fox massively fumbled her comedy series The Mick, has finally achieved the level of mainstream success that makes her a household name even in homes that have content locks blocking anything TV-MA from appearing onscreen. However, now that she’s basically beaten the game of television, Olson might want to think about tackling new challenges so that she doesn’t get bored.
Maybe it’s time for Olson to start thinking about stand-up comedy — you know she’s been working on her impressions.
