Jonathan Joss’ Husband Says the Late ‘King of the Hill’ Actor ‘Saved’ His Life During Deadly Shooting

Jonathan Joss’ husband is speaking out about the deadly shooting that left the King of the Hill star dead on Sunday, recalling how the actor “saved” his life during the incident.

In a statement posted to Joss’ former home in San Antonio

Upon arriving back at their old residence, which was destroyed back in January by a fire that killed their three dogs after “two years” of repeated threats, per the statement, the couple, who faced “openly homophobic” harassment, were greeted with a disturbing sight. “We discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view,” Gonzales explained of the display, which left them “yelling and crying” in “severe emotional distress.”

Gonzales said he and Joss were then “approached” by a man who began “yelling violent homophobic slurs” before shooting at them. “He then raised a gun from his lap and fired,” Gonzales continued, noting that he and the John Redcorn actor “had no weapons” and “were not threatening anyone.”

“When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way,” Gonzales ed. “He saved my life.”

Gonzales, who said he was with Joss “when he ed” — “I told him how much he was loved,” he wrote of the actor’s final moments — cited homophobia as a key factor in the attack. “He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,” he claimed, before offering a message to his spouse’s fans.

“To everyone who ed him, Joss’ recent struggles. “If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.”

“Jonathan saved my life,” Gonzales concluded. “I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.”
