Lorne Michaels has a famously low tolerance for Saturday Night Live hosts going off-script during their open monologues (a lesson George Carlin learned the hard way), but even this rule has an exception: Dave Chappelle.
The comedian, who has keeping his opening act a surprise to everyone, including Michaels. “As a tradition, I never do my actual monologue in rehearsal,” the comedian told Mo Amer during their new Variety “Actors on Actors” interview. “To Lorne Michaels’ credit, he never knows what I’m going to say.”
However, not everyone’s comedic side is encouraged in Hollywood. During another sitdown at Variety, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed to his son Patrick that he was paid “nothing” for Twins, as casting directors were reluctant to hire him in a comedic role. These Twitter s don’t get any back end or upfront compensation for their hilarious tweets — they’re just doing it for the love of the game. Today’s funniest include those about lean for Karens, the downside to “you are what you eat” and the one lunch that will always be under $18.
