Sometimes, a boss’ shortcomings can have even larger negative implications. One Redditor, who was getting their PhD in astrophysics, told their manager about an idea they had for a scoffed, denouncing their preliminary findings as not only “a waste of time,” but also as “high school geometry that anyone could do.” Instead of getting discouraged, the Redditor wrote the paper anyway, and submitted it. Several years later, their once-roasted research was released to widespread scientific acclaim and a much sweeter accolade: a well-deserved apology from their higher-up.
Unfortunately, though, having an insensitive boss is pretty common. Here are some of the worst things Redditors’ bosses have said to them, with the wildest including warnings about the afterlife, promises of a funeral and straight-up harassment.
