‘Arrested Development’ Fans Won’t Stop Flashing Judy Greer

Judy Greer was truly one of the unsung heroes of Arrested Development. Even though she only appeared in just over a dozen episodes of the show, her character, Kitty Sanchez, was extremely memorable. Kitty, of course, was George Sr.’s devoted assistant. Make that very devoted assistant. In addition to carrying on an affair with the Bluth family patriarch, she once hooked up with G.O.B. and had a brief, extremely ill-advised tryst with Tobias.
But Kitty was perhaps best known for her habit of randomly flashing her breast implants, telling Michael to “say goodbye to these” in the Bluth Company office and during a spring break meeting at Señor Tadpole’s.
The revealing sign-off became Kitty’s go-to farewell, even in the case of resignations and break-ups.
While she’s appeared in countless movies and TV shows over the years, according to Greer, she hasn’t been able to escape this specific gag. “I love that one," Greer recently told People. “And usually I get flashed when they say it, so that’s always a bonus, too.” Greer specified that it’s “mostly men” that flash her. “But it’s kind of a pretend flashing, and I’m like, ‘Come on, show me the real thing,’” Greer argued.
Apparently this has been going on for quite a while. In an interview with The Guardian in 2012, Greer recounted how, when they were working on the fourth season of the show, she told Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, “‘Oh, yeah, thanks by the way for all the people flashing their tits at me all the time.’ And he was, like: ‘What? Do people do that?’ Yes, people fucking do that. That’s all they do. I get flashed all the time.”
Greer again clarified that it was “mostly” male flashers.
When asked why Arrested Development fans are so intense, Greer speculated that it’s all owing to viewer guilt. “My theory is people feel bad because they didn’t watch it when it was on TV,” she explained. “And they watched it again and then they were like: ‘Fuck! I need more! How can I make up for the fact that I only Tivo-ed it!’”
Still, the actress seems to be quite fond of the fanbase. In a 2015 chat with Entertainment Weekly, Greer told the outlet, “People who love that show are lovable people. In the beginning, when not many people knew about it or had watched, it was a barometer for me, like, if you liked Arrested Development, then you’re smart and funny, so I’ll like you no matter what.”
She also noted that “it’s rare that some jerk comes up to me and says they love Arrested. I don’t know, people who are fans of this show are okay by me.”
But this still shouldn’t be interpreted as a free for indecent exposure.
