‘Community’ Movie Delays Can No Longer Hurt Dead Fans, Dan Harmon Says

Dan Harmon has been conducting a number of interviews to promote the eighth season of Rick and Morty, but not unlike a horny teenager in an ‘80s slasher movie futilely trying to evade a knife-wielding killer, he just can’t seem to escape questions about the near-mythological Community movie.
Last fall, Yvette Nicole Brown confirmed that there is a script for the project, although she noted it’s currently being “reworked.” Soon after that, Ken Jeong revealed that he too had read the script. "It made me emotional, and just brought me right back, and that’s all I’m legally allowed to say,” the Dr. Ken star told TV Insider. And more recently, Joel McHale said that the hypothetical movie could be followed by a hypothetical TV reboot. #SixSeasonsAndaMovieandMaybeSomeMoreSeasonsAfterThat.

We’ve also learned details about the Community movie’s constantly being dogged by questions about the state of the planned Peacock movie.
In a new interview with Forbes, Harmon confirmed that the movie is indeed “still happening” but is currently in a “holding pattern.” He also acknowledged that some Community devotees may be getting pretty frustrated, and joked that the long wait has likely meant that some fans may have already kicked the bucket, mercifully ending their suffering.
“I think maybe they’ve started dying off,” Harmon quipped. “So we’re not hurting as many people anymore by the continued delays. God rest their souls. We’re going to have a memorial service for half of our audience tomorrow in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.”
Harmon was obviously trying to be funny, but now that we think about it, he’s probably not wrong. Community ended a decade ago, and the movie has reportedly been in the works since 2014. There’s no question that some fans who were excited to check out the movie when it was first announced simply won’t be alive by the time it finally drops.
More seriously, Harmon stated that he has “nothing to report right now” but affirmed that he has a “continued enthusiasm” for Community. The big hurdle for the movie right now is locking down the actors because, according to Harmon, “it’s hard to coordinate schedules.”
Thanks a lot, Animal Control.
At this point, would it be all that surprising if Harmon makes a Community movie with hand puppets and an iPhone just so he doesn’t have to keep answering these questions?
