‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Fans Think the Season 17 Posters Are Bad A.I. ‘Art’

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia may be about to enter its A.I. era. Next time Mac drags a giant bloody crucifix into Paddy’s Pub, we’re going to make sure to check the number of fingers on Jesus.

This July 5th, the longest-running live-action sitcom in American TV history will return after its longest-ever hiatus, nearly two years after we the second half of Always Sunny’s crossover special with Abbott Elementary, in which we will hear the Gang’s side of the story from the ABC sitcom’s mid-season premiere “Volunteers” and finally figure out what nefarious scheme Dennis was up to when he was skulking around out of the camera crew’s sight.

But while the hype train for Season 17 should be full-steam ahead, earlier this week, FX revealed the official posters for the season of Always Sunny that spread throughout the show’s online fandom as long-time followers pointed out that the promotional artwork has the soulless sheen associated with A.I.-generated “artwork,” sparking concerns of anti-art cost-cutting measures in the FX marketing department.

Stupid science bitches couldn’t even make a decent poster.

While neither FX nor Disney have revealed how they crafted the hideous poster, the telltale signs for A.I. art are all there — the weird hands, the exaggerated, uncanny facial expressions and the distinct plastic-y lighting that makes everything look vaguely reminiscent of that infamous Grubhub ad. Plus, and I cant stress this enough, the sloppy poster is so mangled and oversaturated that I have to wonder if the A.I. “artist” who generated this disaster wrote the prompt, “Put the Paddys Pub Gang in a Disney-animated Hieronymus Bosch homage.”

Over in the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia subreddit, fans had a similar reaction to the likely A.I. slop as did their Twitter counterparts, with one fan dubbing the official poster, “the gang lets A.I. do the show for them.”

“These are terrible. Why couldnt they do this as a photo shoot?” another asked. “I cant imagine anybody who doesnt know Sunny seeing this on Hulu and thinking it looks like a good show thats worth watching. Its going to turn so many potential new fans away.”

Another lamented, “This is dreadful. The way Mac is grabbing Dee by the hair/head is ... awkward. And overall just a low-rent effort obviously generated by A.I.”

Many fans wondered how their favorite comedy creators could let the franchise stoop to the level of A.I. art, and, although its unlikely that both Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson reposted a creepy and disgusting video from an Instagram A.I. slop that showed the Gang reimagined as lifeless, eldritch babies.

Hopefully, none of this soulless, job-destroying and, above all else, hideous A.I. garbage seeps into Season 17 or the rest of the series. Although I do have the horrible, morbid fear that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia may already have a plan in place for how they'll handle the show after Danny DeVito es away.
