The Razzies Asked Sandra Bullock for Her Award Back Because They ‘Only Had One’

The Oscars may be silly, and the Golden Globes unnecessary, but the Golden Raspberry Awards, aka The Razzies, are straight-up trash.
As we’ve mentioned before, the “parody” awards show honoring Hollywood’s “worst” movies is arguably just a lame cash grab, with a hip system that feels distinctly pyramid scheme-esque. Then there’s the organization’s history of misogyny and transphobia, and the fact they once nominated a 12-year-old child for “Worst Actress.”
Now we find out that, in addition to all of that, the Razzies don’t even give the “winners” actual awards to take home?
Don't Miss
Dakota Johnson recently guested on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang and, naturally, the subject of Madame Web came up. The 2024 Marvel comics-inspired bomb famously starred Johnson as a psychic whose mom died in the Amazon while researching spiders.
Madame Web “won” three Razzies, including Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and Worst Actress for Johnson. “We don’t have control over how something turns out anymore, no one does,” the 50 Shades of Gray star told Poehler. “I’ve signed on to a movie that is, by the end of shooting it, a completely different script than what I attached to.”
“I’m doing something, like, with my actual body and my actual mind and my heart, my emotions, and it’s just being taken and fucked with,” Johnson continued. “But you can’t do anything about it. Like, what am I gonna do? Fucking cry about Madame Web?”
Poehler then suggested that Johnson should have gone to the Razzie awards as a form of protest. “That would be amazing if you went there and then you just gave an epic speech and then you just spiked the award and you just threw it down,” she joked.
Of course, a number of celebrities have popped by the Razzies in order to claim their trophies, including Freddy Got Fingered auteur Tom Green. Most famously, in 2005 Halle Berry showed up to accept her Catwoman Razzie, while carrying her Best Actress Oscar in one hand. Five years later, All About Steve’s Sandra Bullock appeared at the event to collect the trophy, just one day before winning an Oscar.
But according to Johnson, Bullock didn’t actually get to keep the physical statuette. “Sandra Bullock said she asked for the award and picked it up and then they called her and asked her to give it back because they only had one.”
The least they could do is let the people they’re ridiculing keep the actual award. Madame Web wasn’t great, but at least it had more artistic merit than the Razzies.
