18 of the Dumbest Wars of All Time

Given how nasty the business of war is, you’d like to think that it’s a last resort. It would stand to reason that if two or more beaver pelts.

Unfortunately, this is almost always not the case. Redditors shared some of the dumbest wars they can think of, and they range from misguided massive international warfare to mostly unnecessary fights on an island. Either way, the following wars give you an excellent reason not to sign up as someone who gets sent to take care of them.

WhiskersCleveland . 2y ago The city of Huescar was at war with Denmark for 172 years because they forgot they were at war
JanetWuzHere a 2y ago The war between Denmark and Canada over Hans Ø, an Island in the arctic. 0 casualties, but soldiers from both countries took turns claiming the Island with flags and leaving booze for the other team. It went on for years and was only resolved recently.
zerocoolcat . 2y ago Didn't the Florida Keys cecede, declare war and capitulate in like, an hour? The Conch Republic?
chuchofreeman . 2y ago Football War (or 100 Hour War) between El Salvador and Honduras
WolvoNeil C 2y ago The War of Jenkins Ear (1739-1744, fought between Britain and Spain). 25,000-35,000 dead on both sides in a war started because some guy got his ear cut off. I know its more complex than that, but it does at least have the dumbest name.
 1] . 2y ago War on drugs
Metfan722 2y ago The Pig War. OK this one's not really a war since no one died and no battles were fought, but it was dangerously close to being US VS Britain round 3.
HoopOnPoop 2y ago Switzerland has accidentally invaded Liechtenstein multiple times. During training, units got lost and wandered over the border. These generally end in the Swiss government notifying the Liechtenstein government per protocol and everyone having a good laugh. The only time it got bad was when a missile test went wrong. Nobody was hurt, but a bunch of forest land was burned down. The Swiss of course took full responsibility and an agreement was reached for restitution.
Floptopus . 2y ago The Anglo-Zanzibar War. Lasted about 45 minutes, resulting in a single British soldier wounded and 500 Zanzibari killed or wounded.
Happy_Yogurtcloset_2 . 2y ago Iraq War, was totally unnecessary
Relevant-Band-1038 . 2y ago The 'Emu War' that took place in Australia in 1932. The government deployed machine guns against the emus, and, well, the emus kind of won.
herrbigbadwolf . 2y ago The very famous Every War
. 2y ago I'd say WW1. It was insanely stupid and was not worth anywhere near the price it cost in lives.
Beneficial-Jelly5746 . 2y ago Falklands War, Argentina invaded an island owned by a more powerful country thinking that they won't fight back.
No-Conclusion8653 . 2y ago Russia V. Ukraine. They've already lost more soldiers there than they did in Afghanistan, or we did in Vietnam. As long as NATO is backstopping Ukraine, Russia can't win.
DdraigGwyn 2y ago I mentioned this in another thread, but it seems appropriate The Great Windham Frog War. In 1754 Windham, Connecticut was still a frontier settlement. One hot night the residents awoke to gruesome sounds that convinced them that the local Indians were attacking. Throughout the night they strove to drive off the attackers with steady gunfire. In the morning they crept out, to find thousands of dead frogs who had spent the night competing for the dwindling water. Rather than being ashamed, this has become a central part of the town's character. The town's symbol is a frog
2y ago Not a war, but the post 9/11 invasion of Iraq was a deplorable. Bin Laden lived in the hills of Afghanistan, however US had an axe to grind with Saddam and lied about his weapons of mass destruction in a beautifully orchestrated full court press on the UN Security Council and in the media. The world swallowed it, hook, line and sinker.
student-in-the-wild . 2y ago The Roman emporor Caligula declared war on the sea and ordered his men to collect seashells as spoils of war.
